This month brought us some of our longest-staying guests so far - by the time they left it was like saying goodbye to family members! We were delighted to host visitors from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the USA, plus some returnees from last year which for us is the ultimate seal of approval :-).
We enjoyed several walks in the glorious landscape which surrounds us - firstly the Ogwen valley and Llyn Idwel:
And later in the month from Llyn Dinas via Aberglaslyn to pretty Beddgelert where we enjoyed gorgeously creamy ice creams at Glaslyn Ices. Bryn also took his first proper swim - which was good as someone had got very muddy jumping in swampy ponds earlier in the walk….!!
The rolling farmland, rocky coastline and wide beaches of Anglesey provide a wonderful and nearby contrast to the mountains of Snowdonia. We had a great day out exploring - all under the auspices of ‘guest research’ naturally!! Tiny Red Wharf Bay, pretty Moelfre (with a great coffee stop at Ann’s Pantry), and the obligatory photograph at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (the longest place name in the UK). It was then off to our friends at Roberts & Astley to pick up a retro B&B sign for our hall before lunch at Tide / Llanw, the new outdoor cafe at Halen Mon (Anglesey sea salt), and finally a visit to the ancient Bryn Celli Ddu burial chamber.
May also heralds the annual three-day Trefriw Walking Festival which always attracts lots of visitors to the village. This year’s walkers were able to choose from 22 walks across the weekend, ranging from a two mile woodland mindfulness ramble (which was just what I needed after a very busy week!) to a hike/packrafting session, a walk/e-bike combination, and a classic climb up Snowdon. Several of our guests enjoyed these free, guided walks and on Sunday afternoon the Festival culminated in Cake Fest - possibly the most cake we’ve ever seen in the same place at once!! The 2020 Walking Festival takes place 15th-17th May - details of the walks and online booking will be available in March but if you’d like to secure your accommodation early you can give us a ring or drop us an email any time :-).
